Sir, Fruitist and vegetablist language (letters, June 24, etc) has become deeply rooted in everyday conversation. Efforts to encourage healthy eating among the young are not helped by such pejorative phrases as “wet lettuce”, “sour grapes” and “rotten apple”.
Perhaps more should be done to promote the noble cucumber, which will always remain “cool”.
