In the British supernatural thriller Frozen, Shirley Henderson’s search is for the sister who went missing two years before. She’s positive that her sister is trying to send her messages that tie her disappearance to the beaches of Morecambe Bay. She’s convincing enough to beguile the local vicar.
Unfortunately, the audience is unlikely to be as easily swayed — the plot holds together like a handful of sand scattered on the wind. Still, this debut by Juliet McKoen takes a melancholy pleasure in the striking industrial seascape. It has a strong sense of place, if not much sense in the story.
