Freebird

A small-budget British venture, Jon Ivay's film concerns three middle-aged mates (Gary Stretch, Geoff Bell and - as the joker in the pack - Phil Daniels) who are devoted to motorbikes and soft drugs. Having ridden from London to Wales to carry out a dodgy deal on behalf of a guv'nor type (an improbable Peter Bowles), they get sidetracked into zonked-out tomfoolery and some contemplation of where their lives are heading. In describing the pleasures of weekend hedonism wearing thin, Ivay seems to be aiming for a Withnail & I tone, but, while there is feeling and honesty, there's not much wit - even before the film descends into weak knockabout comedy, with the three men getting caught up in a battle between rival biker gangs.
