Fowler rejoins Liverpool

Robbie Fowler, the Manchester City forward, has joined Liverpool on a free transfer until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old former England international scored 120 goals in 210 league appearances in nine years at his hometown club before joining Leeds for £11 million in November 2001.

He moved to City for £6 million in January 2003 but has not started a Premiership game so far this season, after missing the beginning of the season with a back injury.

Fowler scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup win over Scunthorpe and also scored in the 3-1 win over Manchester United two weeks ago.

He was City’s highest paid player, on £35,000 a week.

Liverpoool already have several options up front, with Peter Crouch, Fernando Morientes and Djibril Cisse in the squad, but none will match the reception Fowler’s return will likely get from the Kop.
