Four terror arrests on the streets of London

Anti-terrorist officers have carried out a series of co-ordinated arrests in London in connection with an major investigation into alleged international terrorism.

The operation is linked to the detention of a man at Manchester airport two weeks ago.

Three men, one aged 29 and the other two aged 21, were arrested separately on the streets of Hackney, East London at 10pm last night and another, aged 28, was arrested today at 3pm in south-east London.

The Metropolitan Police officers, working with colleagues from West Yorkshire police, arrested the men on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The man who was detained at Manchester airport has been charged with terrorism offences connected to the use of poisons or explosives.

The 21-year old Briton, an Asian man living in Bradford, West Yorkshire, was arrested by officers as he stepped off a flight from Canada on June 6.

West Yorkshire Police said one of the 21-year-old men arrested last night was from Bradford, while the other three were from south-east London.

“Arrangements are being made to bring three of the men to West Yorkshire for questioning,” the force said.
