Nottingham Forest last night sacked their head coach, Philippe Montanier, hours after a 0-0 draw at Birmingham. Forest have not won in eight games and are fifth from bottom in the Championship.

The club, whose takeover by a US-based consortium fell through on Friday, said in a statement: ‘We made the decision following a series of disappointing results this season and given the current position in the league table.‘

Gary Brazil will take charge of first-team affairs, while a new manager is found. Callum Connolly, 19, was the hero for Wigan after he scored two headers on his debut in a 2-0 win to send Burton to a fourth straight home league defeat.

Paul Warne celebrated becoming Rotherham manager until the end of the season with a 2-1 win over his hometown club Norwich. Goals from Jerry Yates and Tom Adeyemi finished off the visitors, who had Nelson Oliveira sent off early on.
