Flights in and out of London City Airport have been suspended due to poor visbility.
The decision was taken at 6.30am to suspend all air traffic due to thick fog. A spokeswoman told Times Online: “Because of our short runway, take-offs and landings are steep, which means the margin for error is limited.”
Operators of the east London airport hope to resume services at 11.30am if the fog lifts. The timing is unfortunate: Monday mornings is one of the busiest times for the airport, which is popular with business travellers because it has the shortest check-in time of London’s airport, at ten minutes.
London City is advising passengers to check with their airline before leaving home. Once flights are resumed airport operators are expecting delays to be kept to a minimum, with only this morning’s passengers affected by the flight cancellations.
