Sir, Ever since I put an England flag on my bike at the start of the week (letters, June 12), cycling in Barnet has become much easier. People seem to respect me more — they don’t drive up menacingly behind me, they flash their lights to let me in, and some have even tooted in appreciation.

Far from being a symbol of yobbery, my England flag is bringing out politeness and good manners in people.
