Fletchers, which has offices in Southport and Manchester, specialises in personal injury litigation. Last month, it became the latest law firm to fall into the hands of a private equity house, in this case Sun European, which also has in its portfolio several furniture businesses. The sale price was not disclosed.

The firm recently agreed a £7.4 million settlement for a client who suffered life-changing cognitive and neurological problems after a road accident that led to a stroke and the worsening of pre-existing Crohn’s disease. The settlement included a substantial care package and accommodation costs.

It also secured a settlement of nearly £4 million for a client who sustained multiple injuries, including brain damage and loss of the use of one arm, in a road accident that left him with no prospect of being able to return to work.

In a difficult trial on behalf of a client who had suffered a below-the-knee amputation after a motorcycle collision, Fletchers succeeded in establishing the defendant’s primary liability, despite allegations that its client had been speeding, had overtaken next to a junction and had been under the influence of drugs.
