Sir, In their opposition to the Home Secretary’s proposed security measures Field Marshal Sir John Stanier, former ambassador Sir Harold Walker and their colleagues (letter, February 14) appear to think it is possible to fight today’s wars with the weapons of yesteryear.
The world has changed beyond recognition with the advent of the suicide bomber, and particularly so since 9/11.
We should thank these gentlemen for all that they have done in the service of their country and wish them a happy retirement, safe in the knowledge that we have a Government that takes our security extremely seriously, and will not compromise it.
Yours faithfully,
