Fieldfisher achieved its tenth successive year of growth, posting an 11 per cent increase in revenue. However, its profit per equity partner was down by 11 per cent to £930,000. Robert Shooter, the managing partner, was upbeat, saying that it had been a “remarkable year in many respects,” including the opening of an office in Vienna.

The firm is acting for Getty Images in one of the first copyright disputes over artificial intelligence-powered image generators. Getty Images is suing Stability AI, the company behind the artificial intelligence-powered image generator Stable Diffusion, claiming that it unlawfully copied and processed millions of images protected by copyright.

It also acts for SkyKick in a case against Sky that came before the Supreme Court in June. In the long-running trademark dispute Sky brought an action against SkyKick for infringement of its EU and UK trademark registrations for Sky across a range of goods and services — and SkyKick challenged the validity of the trademarks. It is expected that the outcome could set out the UK’s approach to “bad faith” trademark applications after Brexit.

The firm successfully represented Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation, a Kazakh mining group, helping to secure the closure of a ten-year investigation by the Serious Fraud Office.
