Fianna Fail summit plots big revamp

FIANNA FAIL is planning a root-and-branch revamp of its organisation to deal with the electoral threat posed by an ascendent Sinn Finn.

The party plans to deploy paid officers to work in constituencies years ahead of an election, paving the way for electoral gains. It also plans to set up regional headquarters, to manage rural constituencies better and to set demanding recruitment targets for its members.

The proposals were made during a private meeting at the Merrion hotel in Dublin on Friday to review party structures, after it lost votes to Sinn Fein in the local elections.

Bertie Ahern and his hand-picked group of 20 strategists and parliamentarians spent the day plotting how to revive Fianna Fail’s fortunes in advance of the next election.
