Fiancé of missing woman questioned

THE fiancé of a young woman who is said to have vanished on Valentine’s Day is being closely questioned by detectives about their final day together.

Paul Dyson has been asked to give the police a detailed account of his movements with Joanne Nelson last Sunday. He says he last saw her on the following morning, when they exchanged Valentine’s cards before he left for work.

Detectives in Hull disclosed yesterday that they are searching a local beauty spot where the 30-year-old wood machinist told police he shared a picnic with Miss Nelson, 22, on the day before she disappeared. Miss Nelson’s mother, Jean Nelson, wept yesterday as she made a public appeal for information about her daughter, who works at a Jobcentre in Hull.

Mrs Nelson said that her daughter idolised Mr Dyson, while he “loved her to bits”. The couple have been engaged for 2½ years and share a house that they bought last year. They were planning to marry next year.

Mr Dyson has told the police that he last saw his fiancée at 6.30am on Monday. He said he kissed Miss Nelson goodbye, leaving a ring in a box as a surprise gift. When he returned home in the evening, looking forward to the romantic meal they had planned, he said he found no sign of Miss Nelson.
