Nigel Farage says that cabinet ministers have been banned from speaking to him and that No 10’s refusal to acknowledge his links with Donald Trump are “small-minded, petty, tribal”.

He also told BBC Radio 4 that he had received ten death threats in the past fortnight as he repeated his pitch to become a “bridge” between the UK and Mr Trump’s administration.

Yesterday Mr Farage said: “If you wanted to get business from the biggest company in the world and there was someone there that had the contacts and connections, the first thing you do is to employ that person.

“I find the fact that Downing Street don’t want to acknowledge me — have banned cabinet ministers from even talking to me — it shows you the sort of very small-minded, petty, tribal level that British politics is at. It’s a shame.”

Liam Fox, the international trade secretary, told The Andrew Marr Show: “I’ve not had any such instructions.”

Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats, said that Mr Farage had “absolutely no right to speak for Britain on the world stage”.
