If it is not enough that Premier League footballers now use air guns, it seems that there is another menace out there for supporters to avoid, Djibril Cisse’s right foot.

It has emerged that the former Liverpool forward struck a supporter with a wild shot, which knocked the follower out cold, when he was on loan to Sunderland from Marseille during the 2008-09 season.

The supporter was hit during an open training session, but since the event Sunderland no longer allow fans to watch training sessions.

“I think it was one of Djibril Cisse’s misses where he had a shot from 20 yards. That supporter is in the process of suing us right now,” Niall Quinn, the Sunderland chairman, said.

“I’m making fun of it now, but it knocked a supporter out. It was quite serious.”

Cisse now plays for Panathinaikos.
