Faith in culture

Neglect religion at your peril

Sir, The proposal to set up a national film and arts centre in London along the lines of the World Economic Forum concept in Davos is a brilliant idea (“How to bring Milan, Davos and Los Angeles to London”, Feb 12) but the place of faith within culture should not be ignored. In recent years the World Economic Forum has found an important place for the voice of religious leaders and it is hoped that any attempt to replicate a Davos format should also include a role for faith. The success of the recent Sacred exhibition at the British Library illustrates that religion still retains its power to inform life. The current controversy over Sharia raised by the Archbishop of Canterbury is a reminder that to neglect religion in the life of any community is to ignore one of the most important strands of any culture.
