Fabgadget: FM transmitter

What is it?

The AudiaX (£14.95) is a wireless audio FM transmitter that broadcasts an audio signal from any device with a headphone jack to a radio and plays through its speakers.

How will it change my life?

This gadget allows you to take your portable MP3 or CD player with you in the car and tune your car radio in to the signal that it sends out. Now you can listen to all those MP3 or CD tracks on the move without having to wrestle with miles of cables.

Why this one over the rest?

Apple iPod users have had the iTrip since last year, but this is the first device that works with all players.

Or you could always?

Learn to hum.

Verdict

We tested the unit on a number of radios and got mixed results. It’s best to set the volume low on the player and find a signal that isn’t already taken by a station. Best results came from portable players, rather than real hi-fis, but as a way of getting your digital music to play through speakers, it’s hard to beat.
