A highly experienced social worker and an expert on child abuse have been appointed to Scotland’s public inquiry into the historical abuse of children in care.
The panel members Glenn Houston and Michael Lamb will help Susan O’Brien, QC, the chairwoman, with the work of the inquiry, which formally began at the start of the month and could last up to four years.
Mr Houston is the chief executive of Northern Ireland’s independent health and social care regulator, the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority, and has more than 30 years’ experience working in the field.
Professor Lamb is a professor of psychology at the University of Cambridge and headed a research unit at the US National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Washington DC for 17 years.
Angela Constance, the education secretary, said: “With Mr Houston’s strong knowledge and experience in health and social care and Professor Lamb’s focus on investigating child maltreatment for over a quarter of a century, their expertise will be invaluable to the inquiry.”
