A suicide bombing in the centre of Kabul yesterday killed at least 103 people and injured 235. Attackers used an ambulance laden with explosives to pass a police checkpoint in a secure zone before triggering the blast. The Taliban claimed responsibility. Four suspects have been arrested in relation to the blast.

Erase Hull Banksy, says councillor
A Hull councillor has called for a new Banksy mural to be removed. The design, on a disused bridge, was noticed by passers-by last Thursday and claimed by the graffiti artist on Friday. Tory councillor John Abbott said the work did not compare to “real art” in the city gallery.

Celebrities urge animal export ban

Mary Beard made into a Lego figure
The classicist and television presenter Mary Beard said she is “very flattered” to have become a Lego figure. Its creator, Liam D Jensen, spent 18 months on his tribute. It is the second time Beard has been rendered in yellow plastic: she also features in a Lego depiction of Pompeii at a museum in Athens.

Tesco apologised yesterday for a spelling mistake that meant thousands of T-shirts intended for St David’s Day and the Six Nations had to be withdrawn in Wales. Instead of Cymru am byth (Wales forever), they said Cymru am buth, which is meaningless.
