Average 6.2

6 Ben Foden England’s best runner, especially after the break when Scotland kicked to him and he could find gaps in the defence.

5 Chris Ashton No sign of a swallow dive despite being put into the open a couple of times, but was well marshalled by the defence.

4 Mike Tindall Had done nothing of note except push one attacking kick too long before he was replaced. Strong but lacked guile.

5 Shontayne Hape Nearly cut through a few times but somehow Scotland managed to scramble back to block his best moments.

5 Mark Cueto Had a few runs from deep but, against the ferocious tackling of Scotland, found it hard to make any real impression.

5 Toby Flood Got England off the mark with early penalties and controlled the game with his usual efficiency.

6 Ben Youngs Rarely found Scotland prepared to give him the space to get his offloads away when it mattered.

8 Alex Corbisiero Powerful scrummaging performance. Did everything that could have been expected from him in the open.

7 Dylan Hartley Threw accurately in the lineout and was lively in the loose. Unlucky not to have laid on a try early in the second half.

8 Dan Cole Like his front-row colleagues was seen at his best in the scrum, where he dominated, but must do more in the open.

6 Louis Deacon Effective in the lineout but could never get the better of his hard-tackling opponents in the loose.

7 Tom Palmer Effective in the lineout and an able link man on a few occasions without being able to find the killer offload.

6 Tom Wood Did a lot of hard work in the loose but could not do much to get control as Scotland dominated.

8 James Haskell Carried well and worked tirelessly to try to get on top of the Scotland eight with some effective play in the rucks.

7 Nick Easter His ball-carrying caused problems for the Scotland defence, which always found him hard to stop.
