International friendly

England 2 Slovenia 1

7.20pm: Full time. A good result for Fabio Capello’s side, and yet another goal for Defoe - but can they do it on Wednesday when it counts? Join us then - and don’t forget to follow the rest of the evening’s international football here with our fantastic Match Tracker.

7.18pm: After a brilliant run down the middle, Jermain Defoe takes simply too long to get the ball on his favoured foot, by which time he’s been pushed wide.

7.17pm: Ashley Cole is the man of the match.

7.15pm: Carlton Cole surges forward, rounding the defender by the left corner flag, but his shot leaves much to be desired.

7.11pm: GOAL! England 2 Slovenia 1 Pecnik has looked dangerous since he’s come on, and here he brilliantly takes the England defence on down the left, and crosses in for Ljubijankic to score with a diving header.

7.06pm: Wayne Rooney is the next England man to head off the pitch, replaced by Carlton Cole.

7pm: Pecnik has a spectacular glancing header wide of Robert Green’s left post.

6.59pm: Great run by Aaron Lennon, and Wayne Rooney is unmarked about two yards out. He shoots straight at the man standing on the line.

6.58pm: And Pecnik comes on in place of Dedic.

6.51pm: Joleon Lescott comes on for Matthew Upson.

6.50pm: GOAL! England 2 Slovenia 0 Defoe makes as if to play a second one-two with Aaron Lennon, but chooses to strike himself from the edge of the box. It skids in.

6.45pm: Free kick to Slovenia on the corner of the box - Koren is about to take it. He lofts it over the two-man wall and Green punches away.

6.41pm: Slovenia’s second sub of the day - Ljubijankic comes on for Novakovic.

6.38pm: Defoe scuffs over the ball and it’s another deflection.

6.36pm: Various England cricketers are in the crowd. From the shot we see of Andrew Strauss, he could not look less interested.

6.32pm: Kick off!

6.30pm: Multiple changes. Here are Michael Carrick, Aaron Lennon, James Milner and Jermaine Defoe. We lose Emile Heskey, Steven Gerrard (not a surprise, that), Shaun Wright-Phillips and Frank Lampard.

6.15pm: That’s half-time. A comfortable first half for England, even if the opening goal was somewhat fortuitous. Let’s see what happens in the second half when the inevitable multiple substitutions kick in.

6.12pm: Ashley Cole overhits a pass between the two centre-halves to Wayne Rooney.

6.06pm: Steven Gerrard strikes exquisitely with his right foot, but it’s always drifting wide.

6.05pm: Rooney hits the post with an overly elaborate powerful left-footed shot from about a yard out.

6.04pm: Cesar’s being substituted - he’s replaced by Mavric.

6.02pm: Cesar’s still not back on, so Slovenia are still playing with ten men.

6pm: GOAL! England 1 Slovenia 0 Frank Lampard slots the ball low to the keeper’s right, past his outstretched arm, as Cesar is reclining behind the goal receiving treatment.

5.58pm: Penalty to England! Looks to me like Wayne Rooney is tugging on Cesar’s shirt, but the referee thinks different.

5.57pm: Three corners in a row for England.

5.52pm: Terry hits the bar with a strong header, and then tries a bicycle kick for the rebound.

5.51pm: Rooney tries to take on everyone alone, picking up Heskey’s knockdown, but Brecko’s deflection takes it over the bar.

5.48pm: Yellow card for Kirm, who bundles Emile Heskey over.

5.46pm: Steven Gerrard puts his hands on his hips and looks vaguely pained.

5.40pm: Shaun Wright-Phillips loops it in from the right, Handanovic and Rooney collide in the air as the striker’s trailing leg catches the goalkeeper, and then there’s a bit of chat.

5.37pm: Novakovic rounds the goalkeeper, and as England players race back to pack the box, he goes just a touch too wide, and the angle he shoots from is too acute.

5.35pm: Robert Green races out of his box and collects the ball - but none of the officials seem to notice.

5.34pm: Handanovic punches it away. No idea why. Would have been easier to catch it.

5.33pm: Radosavljevic goes in studs up on Heskey, and it’s a free kick to England just outside the edge of the box.

5.31pm: Too much on the cross from Gerrard to Rooney; the midfielder has struck it first time and it’s a fruitless chase.

5.30pm: Kick-off!

5.25pm: The teams are on the pitch, all lined up with their mascots ready to sing their national anthems.
