Elton John wants to adopt another baby

SIR ELTON JOHN has revealed he and David Furnish, his partner, want to have another baby, so their son Zachary has someone to support him if he is teased about not having a mother.

The 65-year-old singer fathered baby Zachary Levon Furnish-John 15 months ago with the help of a surrogate mother, and said he now hopes to repeat the process.

He told the Sunday Mirror: “It’s difficult to be an only child, and to be the only child of someone famous.

“I want him to have a sibling so he has someone to be with.

“I know when he goes to school there is going to be an awful lot of pressure, and I know he’s going to have people saying ‘You don’t have a mummy’.

“I want someone to be at his side to back him up.”

Furnish, 49, a Canadian film producer, said in April the couple discuss the prospect of having a second child “all the time”.

He added that while “nothing’s decided yet,” they are hoping to make a firm decision this summer while at their holiday home in France.

Furnish told the London Evening Standard he and John could approach the same surrogate so Zachary would be genetically related to his sibling.

“We could go back to the same egg donor, so biologically there would certainly be a connection between brother and brother or brother and sister,” he said.

“But (she) has a life of her own and her own family.

“It’s a big commitment to make, nine months of their life that doesn’t just affect them but their children, their husband, their partner. If we found a surrogate who is half as beautiful as our first, we would be very lucky.”

John has often spoken of the joy fatherhood has brought him, saying he makes time to give Zachary his bath and read a bedtime story.

He added: “I know when I come off stage I am going to be happy.

“I don’t have to stay up doing drugs. I’m going to get up in the morning and see my little boy.”
