1 Ten for 64 in 22.2 overs
Second Test v Bangladesh, second innings
England crumble spectacularly to hand Bangladesh their first meaningful Test victory. Set 273 to win, Alastair Cook and Ben Duckett share an opening stand of 100 before spinners Mehedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan share ten wickets.

2 Ten for 104 in 49 overs
Fifth Test v India, second innings
A dreadful end to the tour. Cook and Keaton Jennings are unbeaten at lunch on day five and with a draw looking likely until the England captain turns one to leg slip and watches the chaos ensue.

3 Ten for 83 in 47.1 overs
Second Test v India, second innings
Set 405 runs to win, Haseeb Hameed and Cook share 75 for the first wicket, but blocking rather than scoring backfires. England lose by 246 runs and Virat Kohli says that England’s plan played into his hands.

4 Five for 36 in 19 overs
First Test v Bangladesh, second innings
Leading by 45 runs after the first innings, England start horribly in their second innings as their top five score 51 runs. Only a century partnership between Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow allows them to set a target but Bangladesh come within 22 runs of victory.

5 Six for 15 in 12 overs
Fourth Test v India, second innings
England are 180 for four in the third innings of the match, still 51 runs behind on first innings. After Stokes is caught reverse sweeping, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid and James Anderson all play poor shots and England are bundled out for 195 to lose by an innings and 36 runs.

6 Five for 76 in 34.2 overs
Second Test v India, first innings
After India score 455 in their first innings, England’s top order withers. Hameed is run out by Root, who compounds that by trying to bash Ravichandran Ashwin into the stands but is caught at long-off. Stokes and Bairstow are left with the rebuilding job once more.

7 Five for 59 in 13.5 overs
Second Test v Bangladesh, first innings
Bangladesh score 220 in their first innings but England are spooked. Again the top-order collapses in the face of spin and England’s lead is only 24 runs.

8 Four for 55 in 16.3 overs
Third Test v India, first innings
England squander first use of the pitch by losing four top-order batsmen in quick succession. Root is culpable after he tries to pull the first ball he has faced from a spinner — only to be pinned leg-before.
