The early bird catches the skating gulls, rutting deer and even rabbits coming out of their warrens for breakfast.

Alex Saberi rose before dawn every day for a year to compile a photographic album of London’s early morning animals.

The photographer captured this series of images at Richmond Park, southwest London, after dedicating the early hours of his day to cycling around the park in search of the sights city dwellers rarely capture. Mr Saberi, a web designer, said the key to capturing the variety of images had been perseverance.

“It’s a magical place. You feel like you’re out in the wild,” he said of the park, which is near his home in Putney.

“If nothing’s happening in one area, I’ll cycle off somewhere else and see what I can see. The best conditions for me are when there’s a bit of mist to make it atmospheric, especially when it’s sunny or with a bit of cloud.

“Even on the best days, you only get perhaps an hour and a half of the maximum conditions, so you have to make the most of it.”
