Sir, Some parents seem to be paying for tests to diagnose mild dyslexia in their children, which then allows them extra time in public examinations.
When my elder daughter commented that a number of her peers had been diagnosed as dyslexic just before GCSEs, I did not take too much notice. However, I discovered recently that the same thing is now happening in my younger daughter’s year — she takes GCSEs next year.
If this is happening all over the country, perhaps severely dyslexic children should now be given even more extra time. And are children whose parents do not send them off for tests being disadvantaged?
