Drawing attention to a good cause

After the England men’s team raised £7,000 for charity by drawing each other last month, the women’s team have followed suit. Jenny Gunn was the most popular subject, with Danielle Hazell, Lydia Greenway and Sonia Odedra all eager to illustrate the Nottinghamshire cricketer, drawing particular attention to her long arms.

Charlotte Edwards, the England captain, said: “It was a lot of fun to take part in. I know the vital work that all three charities do and we are delighted to be able to help. I’m just glad that no one drew me!”

The drawings were put up for sale on Ebay today. The proceeds of the auctions will be donated to Cricket United, a joint fundraising appeal by the Lord’s Taverners, Chance to Shine and the PCA Benevolent Fund, which aims to improve lives through cricket.

The England women’s team play South Africa today at Chelmsford in the first of three Twenty20 matches.
