Robert joined F&C in 2002, from the environmental research group Earthwatch, where he served as Chief Executive of the European division. F&C is one of Europe’s largest fund managers and institutional investors, with approximately £102 billion of funds under management.
Robert covers the Pharmaceutical, Defence and Tobacco sectors from the perspective of governance & sustainable investment, in addition to overseeing the research for Europe’s largest ethically-screened funds, the Stewardship funds. Recent projects include putting together a consortium of 70 investors worth $12.3 trillion to support the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative; writing F&C research reports on ‘Are Extractive Companies Compatible with Biodiversity’ and ‘Is Biodiversity a Material Risk for Companies?’; acting as a Contributing Author to the UN’s Millennium Ecosystem Assessment; and coordinating F&C’s engagement project on political donations and lobbying.
Robert is an Honorary Visiting Fellow of Green College, Oxford. He holds a PhD from the European University Institute and a degree from the University of Oxford. He has published over 50 articles on corporate responsibility and responsible investment. He is a member of the Board of the Environment Council, the University Court of Oxford Brookes University and the Export Guarantees Advisory Committee of the ECGD.
