I want to sync an Android phone with my Mac’s contacts and calendar, but the phone only supports Windows. Can I do it?
PJ, Lincoln
Yes — and you don’t need a cable connection to do it. The trick is to sync the Mac’s Address Book and iCal software with an online Google account. (You will have had to link to such an account when you activated the phone.)
In Address Book, go to Preferences and select Accounts. Here you can set your contacts to sync with your Google account. Do the same thing in iCal. There’s a simple guide from Google at tinyurl.com/64tqce. Tony Smith
When I connect my laptop to my wi-fi home network my DAB radio goes dead. Why is this happening?
JS, Dorset
DAB radios are susceptible to falling signal strength and interference in general — such as that generated by your PC connecting to the wi-fi.

The only solutions are to move your radio or laptop, or to buy a radio antenna to help overcome the interference. Maplin.co.uk sells a telescopic aerial as a replacement for the short one that comes with the radio (£6), as well as an external aerial for mounting outside your home (£20). Nigel Powell
I use Microsoft Word to write long essays with footnotes. When I’m editing, Word often plays up: it particularly dislikes changes to footnotes, and can be unreliable when saving a file. Is there a word-processing program that would better suit my needs?
EC, via email
Take a look at the free LibreOffice (downloadable from libreoffice.org). This suite of programs includes a word processor, a spreadsheet, and presentation and drawing packages. The programs are designed to be compatible with Microsoft software, so it should be easy to transfer your existing Word documents.
To help with your saving problems, set up an auto-save routine in LibreOffice (Tools, Options, Load/Save). This automatically saves any document you’re working on at preset intervals. Choose a short time interval between auto-saves and you should always have a nearly complete document to fall back on should you lose any data while saving manually. NP
