I used to store backups of important files on my iPod, copying documents from a computer by enabling the player’s “disk use” feature. I now have a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus and would like to do the same, but my PC won’t see it as a disk drive. What can I do? KB, Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey

Unfortunately, iPhones do not support Disk Mode. There is software that will allow you to access an iPhone’s storage, but you will need to install it on every computer you use, otherwise you won’t be able to get the files off.

Ecamm’s PhoneView ($29.95, or £19, from ecamm.com) is for the Mac. Windows equivalents include Coolmuster (free from coolmuster.com) and iExplorer ($35, or £22, from macroplant.com). I suggest you back up to a low-cost USB stick or SD card instead
