Do you know a trendy Edinburgh hotel

The Sunday Times opens its daily travel clinic to answer your holiday queries. Today: Heather Myers wants a stylish Edinburgh hotel

Now that the festival is over, can you suggest a trendy hotel and a hip restaurant in Edinburgh? As you can probably tell, I can’t stand stand-up. - Heather Myers, Brighton

One of the stylish modern rooms at The Glasshouse (2 Greenside Place) would suit you perfectly Heather. It’s a striking hotel, opened in 2003, and occupies the top two floors of the Omni leisure complex, with the roof as its garden.

You enter the hotel through an historic church façade at street level, and then reach the 65 rooms via the lift. At the foot of Calton Hill, there are sweeping views from the rooms, which have floor to ceiling windows - most have their own terrace too.

There’s an attractively landscaped garden and the Snug lounge, where there is an honesty bar. The good-sized rooms have CD players, plasma screen TV’s, large walk in showers, and room service. Rates start at £210 a night, including breakfast, although check the website for special deals.

Edinburgh’s hottest table has to be the Tower restaurant (Museum of Scotland). It’s a rooftop restaurant above the Museum of Scotland, and has great food, excellent service, and fantastic views of the castle. This is the A-lister’s choice too, who come to enjoy the elegant surroundings and outstanding seafood, grilled meats, and vegetarian dishes, all served to perfection in its trademark unfussy style. There’s a two-course light lunch (from 12pm to 5pm) for £9.95, or a la cart in the evening, starters are from £7, and mains are about £20.
