Directors’ liability

Sir, Margaret Hodge’s grilling of Rona Fairhead (report, Mar 10) is a classic example of the ill-informed building a case on false assumptions. In the primary law of the Companies Act there is no such title as “non-executive” or “executive” director. Once registered at Companies House, each director is jointly and severally liable and has unlimited liability.

It is the politicians who have not enforced this law and have allowed the regulators to construct a superstructure of questionable codes that promoted these bogus titles that have undermined the primary law.

Sir, Is this the same Margaret Hodge who was leader of Islington council from 1982 to 1992, during which time numerous cases of child abuse took place, and who later confessed that “our naivety was shameful”?
