Dirt, Five US, 9pm

Courteney Cox-Arquette presides over this seedy new drama as the editor of two LA celebrity magazines. There’s a lot of partying, a lot of sex and some woeful acting from Cox-Arquette (who is also executive producer), but the downsides are balanced by the wonderful Ian Hart as a schizophrenic paparazzo, a cameo by the director David Fincher and Josh Stewart as a struggling actor-turned-gossip source.

The New Adventures of Old Christine, UKTV Gold, 9pm

This new sitcom stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, of Seinfeld fame, in the familiar modern role of a divorced mother juggling career and childcare, so it is bound to find a receptive audience. The comedy circles around the fact that Christine still holds a torch for her exhusband, who has a new girlfriend of the same name (hence the title). It’s not Seinfeld, but it’s not bad.
