Digby Brown Solicitors works only in Scotland in the field of personal injury. It deals with cases for people who have, through no fault of their own, been injured on the roads, at work or in other circumstances. Last year it recovered more than £140 million in damages for its clients.

Cases in the past year included AM v MR, in which the firm’s client was left tetraplegic after a crash. He was in the passenger seat when the driver, who was speeding, hit flood water. The case settled for £12.5 million, the highest known lump-sum settlement in Scotland.

In RW v City Property (Glasgow) LLP, the client fell through a skylight while taking samples from the roof of a community centre, suffering a brain injury. The case settled for more than £3 million. And in JS v AK, a cyclist was hit when a vehicle overtook him and immediately turned left across his path. His helmet was dislodged and his head struck the ground, causing a severe brain injury. The case settled for more than £5 million.
