It’s that man again

Russell Brand is God-like. But only in that he’s everywhere, all the time, thanks to his televisual omnipresence. Obviously this is soul-destroying, but he does provide constancy in an uncertain world.

The Japanese must also find such reliability reassuring because an equally manic presenter called Norio Minorikawa, known as Monta Mino, has just broken the Guinness world record for most hours spent on TV — nearly 22 hours a week, presenting 16 different programmes. They include Millionaire, a cheery offering called Amazing Animals and Full Throttle TV, in which he provides his fans with health and relationship advice.

On receiving his award Monta Mino said: “I’m touched. I want to die talking.” One wonders if he hopes this will be soon.
