The body of a baby found in a drain was that of Troy Simpson who went missing from his home on Tuesday, detectives confirmed yesterday.
The discovery was made during a search for the six-month-old boy who vanished from his home in Smethwick, West Midlands, on Monday night. His body was found on wasteland 300 yards from the house from which his grandmother reported him missing. Officers are treating his death as murder. A Home Office pathologist has carried out a post-mortem examination.
Troy’s mother, Danielle, 17, grandmother, Theresa, 47, and a 20-year-old man are still being questioned. Another man has been released. Troy went missing between 9.15pm on Monday and 6am on Tuesday.
His mother put him to bed before going to the nearby house of a boyfriend. But when her mother went to check on Troy the next day, she found that he had vanished.
