GAY and lesbian police officers should feel as free to bore colleagues with the intricate details of forthcoming civil partnership ceremonies as heterosexual staff would about their marriages, reports Jane’s Police Review (Feb 6).
Stonewall, the gay equality organisation, says that all workplaces must recognise the importance of civil partnerships. “If there is a civil partnership [announced at work] does the card go round? Is there a collection?” asks Stonewall’s Michelle Fullerton.
Comments such as “she’s one of the boys” do not make for a supportive workplace, she adds.
