Deadly 5ft bird on the loose

A 5ft bird with 6in claws and the potential to deliver a fatal blow to anyone who approaches him is on the loose after escaping from a farm in Kent, the RSPCA said yesterday.

Ralph, a South American rhea — an ostrich-like bird — went missing with two others on Monday after being scared by squealing piglets. Sue Savage, 44, of Benenden, his owner, said: “They jumped a 4ft fence and went galloping off into the distance.” The two others have been recaptured.
