This year Dawson Cornwell successfully represented a man who had been an unemployed house husband throughout his 11-year marriage to a barrister and was demanding a share of her money. In a fiercely fought case described by the judge as “an exercise in self-destruction”, the firm represented Kianoosh Azarmi-Movafagh in the Court of Appeal, which upheld an order for his millionaire former wife and barrister, Sorour Bassiri-Dezfouli, to give him £625,000.

Dawson Cornwell, which provides a complete range of family law services, has developed specialist expertise in matrimonial cases, representing wealthy individuals. It is also renowned for dealing with international children law disputes and has trained and recruited cross-qualified lawyers who between them speak 17 languages.

Other highlights over the past 12 months have included a case addressing the forensic challenges in dealing with a significant history of coercive and controlling behaviour, and a Supreme Court case concerning the complex interplay between asylum legislation and international child abduction.
