A Maori performer who head-butted and broke the nose of a Dutch tourist during a traditional welcome has been ordered to do 150 hours of community service.
Richard Minarapa Mitai-Ngatai, 40, pleaded guilty in a New Zealand court last month to assaulting Johannes Scheffers because he thought that the tourist was laughing at the hongi, the traditional welcome.
Police said that the victim had given a nervous grin but had not intended to be disrespectful. (AP)
