Human remains found in a south London park last week have been formally identified as those of Sarah Mayhew, a 38-year-old woman from Croydon.
Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, police said on Monday.
David Mayhew, the victim’s father, shared a photo of his daughter on Facebook and friends commented on their likeness. One said: “Beautiful. She’s like her dad, that’s for sure.” Another said: “Your daughter is your double.”

His niece wrote: “Uncle David, seeing you so broken is heartbreaking.” One friend added: “So sorry for your loss David. Thinking of you at this sad time.”
On Saturday a 44-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of Mayhew’s murder. They were known to her and remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, who is leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, said: “My thoughts are with Sarah’s family as they deal with this heartbreaking news. No family should have to lose a loved one in such tragic circumstances, and we will continue to provide our support as our investigation progresses. The two people in custody were known to Sarah and at present we are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.”
The remains were found on Rowdown Fields in New Addington, Croydon, shortly after 9am on Tuesday last week. After being sent for genetic analysis, a forensic archaeologist confirmed that what had been found was human and came from one victim.
A police cordon remained in place for days as the scene was examined. Three forensic vans were stationed in Rowdown Fields car park and sniffer dogs were seen searching the roadside next to Lodge Lane.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, who leads policing in Croydon, said: “While I hope these updates will offer some reassurance to the local community, we are aware of the understandable concern this incident has caused across New Addington. We repeat our thanks for the support and patience of the public, which has allowed officers to carry out important enquiries at the scene.”
Brittain said that uniformed officers would remain “visible and available” in the area. People with information that could help the investigation are urged to contact police.
