Croft and Cosker seek to press Glamorgan advantage

NORTHAMPTON (second day of four): Northamptonshire, with seven second-innings wickets in hand, are 95 runs behind Glamorgan

FIFTEEN of the first 21 wickets to fall in this match were to the quicker bowlers, but Glamorgan will be looking for spin to play its traditional role at Wantage Road today as they seek their second successive championship win.

Robert Croft and Dean Cosker, on for the thirteenth and twentieth overs of the Northamptonshire second innings respectively, removed Chris Rogers and Monty Panesar, the curious choice as nightwatchman, shortly before the close to take their combined championship wicket tally this season to 42.

Glamorgan, who have announced that Brendon McCullum, the New Zealand wicketkeeper, will be the five-week replacement for Mark Cosgrove, who leaves next week to represent Australia A, began yesterday 52 runs in arrears, with eight wickets standing, and despite the early losses of Michael Powell and Nicky Peng, made steady if unspectacular progress towards their potentially match-winning first-innings lead.

McCullum will play as a batsman only, which is just as well for Mark Wallace, who completed an excellent fifty here.
