Craig Bellamy has broken ranks to reveal that he has been selected for the Great Britain squad at the Olympics.
The make-up of the squad has been a closely guarded secret, with Stuart Pearce set to reveal his full squad for the Games this week. Bellamy admitted that he was “supposed to keep it quiet”, but confirmed that he has been selected.
“I’m in the Olympic squad,” he said at a charity event in Singapore. “I was supposed to keep it quiet but I’ve agreed to do that. It’s a different challenge. I had a difficult season with Liverpool, but the Olympics is a one-off.”
Most interest has focused on who the Team GB manager will select as his three overage players, with David Beckham, Joe Cole and Ryan Giggs among the favourites to be selected.
The decision to select Bellamy, 32, means that they are now vying for only two places. The forward scored nine goals for Liverpool this season but has won 69 international caps with Wales.

Having learnt that his Great Britain team will face Senegal, the UAE and Uruguay, Pearce said that he would travel to the United States next week to meet Beckham before making a decision on whether to include the 36-year-old, who plays for the LA Galaxy.
