Ms Grace Nichols was received by The Queen this afternoon when Her Majesty presented her with The Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry.

The Poet Laureate (Professor Simon Armitage) was present.

The Queen held a Council via video link at 2.15pm.

There were present: the Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP (Lord President), the Rt Hon Stephen Barclay MP (Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster), the Baroness Evans of Bowes Park (Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal) and the Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP (Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy).

The Baroness Williams of Trafford was sworn in as a member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

Ms Alison Johnstone MSP and Ms Elin Jones MS made affirmation as members of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

At the Council The Queen approved the List of High Sheriffs for the Counties of England (other than Cornwall and those in the Duchy of Lancaster) and Wales.

After the Council, the Rt Hon Stephen Barclay MP had an audience of Her Majesty via video link when The Queen approved the List of High Sheriffs for the Counties of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Windsor Castle this morning.

Mrs Justice Bacon, Mrs Justice Collins Rice, Mrs Justice Ellenbogen, Mrs Justice Tipples, Mrs Justice Smith, Mrs Justice Arbuthnot of Edrom and Mrs Justice Williams were received by The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, this afternoon upon their appointment as Justices of the High Court when His Royal Highness invested them with the Insignia of Dames Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Mr Justice Bourne, Mr Justice Calver, Mr Justice Fordham, Mr Justice Foxton, Mr Justice Green, Mr Justice Henshaw, Mr Justice Hilliard, Mr Justice Adam Johnson, Mr Justice Linden, Mr Justice McFarland, Mr Justice Meade, Mr Justice Miles, Mr Justice Peel, Mr Justice Poole, Mr Justice Scoffield, Mr Justice Wall, Mr Justice Mellor, Mr Justice Humphreys, Mr Justice Rooney, Mr Justice Cotter, Mr Justice Eyre, Mr Justice Ritchie, Mr Justice Edwin Johnson and Mr Justice Leech were received by The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, upon their appointment as Justices of the High Court when His Royal Highness conferred upon them the honour of Knighthood and invested them with the Insignia of Knights Bachelor.

By command of The Queen, Mr Alistair Harrison (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Mr Manuel Lobo Antunes at 11 Belgrave Square, London SW1 this morning in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador from the Portuguese Republic to the Court of St James’s.

The Earl of Wessex, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, today undertook engagements in Kenya.

His Royal Highness this morning met young people taking part in their Gold Award Expedition at Aberdare National Park, Aberdare Forest, Nyeri, and planted a tree for The Queen’s Green Canopy.

The Earl of Wessex later attended a Reception with young people taking part in their Award, followed by a Meeting with University Vice Chancellors at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Mweiga Road, 10143 Dedan Kimathi, Nyeri.
