The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, this afternoon named the new vessel BRITANNIA at Ocean Terminal, Southampton, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Mr Nigel Atkinson), the Chairman of Carnival UK (Mr David Dingle), the Master of BRITANNIA (Captain Paul Brown) and the Life President of P&O Cruises (the Lord Sterling of Plaistow).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness attended a Service of Dedication before Her Majesty named BRITANNIA.

The Queen, escorted by the Master, and The Duke of Edinburgh, escorted by the Chairman, embarked BRITANNIA and viewed the Ship’s controls and met crew members.

The Lord Sterling of Plaistow, on behalf of Her Majesty, presented a replica P&O Officer’s Sword to the Master.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were entertained to Luncheon by the Master.

The Rt Hon David Cameron MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of Her Majesty this evening.
