BUCKINGHAM PALACE

June 28: The Queen, Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom, with The Duke of Edinburgh, Admiral of the Fleet, today visited HM Naval Base, Portsmouth, to witness the International Review of the Fleet at Spithead to commemorate the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, and was received at HMS Temeraire, Burnaby Road, Portsmouth, by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Mrs Christopher Fagan), the Executive Officer of HMS Temeraire (Commander Robert Holmes RN) and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth (Councillor Robin Sparshatt).

The Garrison Commander of the Keys (Captain Andrew Hart) and Warrant Officer 1 A. Pearson surrendered to Her Majesty the Keys of the City of Portsmouth, which The Queen returned to them.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to HM Naval Base and were received at Victory Arena by the First Sea Lord (Admiral Sir Alan West).

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, was received on parade with a Royal Salute and inspected the Guard.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness walked to HMS Endurance, meeting families from the Naval Base and HMS Scott and HMS Chatham, and were received by Commodore Amjad Hussain RN (Naval Base Commander, Portsmouth), before meeting families from HMS Endurance.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh embarked in HMS Endurance (Captain Thomas Karsten RN) and a Gun Salute was fired from the Royal Yacht Guardship, HMS Chatham (Captain Stephen Chick RN), before HMS Endurance sailed.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were entertained to Lunch in HMS Endurance by the First Sea Lord.

The Rt Hon Dr John Reid MP (Secretary of State for Defence) and Rear Admiral James Rapp (Director General of Trafalgar 200) were present on board.

This afternoon The Queen, with The Duke of Edinburgh, aboard HMS Endurance, sailed between the lines of ships assembled at Spithead and reviewed the Fleet.

At the end of the Review, HMS Endurance anchored and Her Majesty, with His Royal Highness, witnessed a steam-past by six warships, a flypast by Maritime aircraft and a sail past by Tall Ships and small craft.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh afterwards transferred by helicopter to HMS Invincible (Captain Neil Morisetti RN) and attended Receptions on board, meeting representatives of other Navies taking part in the Review.

June 28: The Duke of York today visited HM Naval Base, Portsmouth, Hampshire, and undertook the following engagements to commemorate the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

His Royal Highness this morning visited USS Saipan and HMS Enterprise.

The Duke of York this afternoon witnessed the International Fleet Review from HMS Enterprise.

His Royal Highness this evening attended an All Ranks Reception aboard HMS Illustrious.

The Duke of York afterwards attended a Dinner aboard HMS Invincible and subsequently watched the Son et Lumière from the Ship.
