His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen was received in audience by The Queen today upon his appointment as Governor-General of Jamaica when Her Majesty conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George.

Lady Allen was also received by Her Majesty.

Major Richard Maundrell was received by The Queen upon relinquishing his appointment as Equerry to The Duke of Edinburgh when Her Majesty invested him with the Insignia of a Member of the Royal Victorian Order.

The following were received in audience by The Queen and kissed hands upon their appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassadors: Mr. Trevor Moore (the Republic of Tajikistan) and Mr. Stephen Lillie (the Republic of the Philippines).

Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Lillie were also received by Her Majesty.

The following were received in audience by The Queen upon their appointment as British High Commissioners: Mr. Matthew Forbes (the Republic of Seychelles) and Mr. Patrick Ashworth (Belize).

Mrs. Forbes were also received by Her Majesty.

The Queen held a Council at 2.30 p.m..

There were present: the Lord Mandelson (Lord President), the Rt. Hon. Dawn Primarolo MP (Minister of State, Department for Children, Schools and Families), the Rt. Hon. Patrick McFadden MP (Minister of State, Business, Innovation and Skills) and the Rt. Hon. Christopher Geidt (Private Secretary to Her Majesty The Queen).

The Queen declared in Council the Lord Mandelson Lord President of the Council, who made affirmation as Lord President and as First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and as President of the Board of Trade, kissed hands on appointment and received the Seals of Office.

Miss Judith Simpson was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Lord Mandelson had an audience of Her Majesty before the Council.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Chancellor, this afternoon attended an Honorary Degree Congregation Ceremony at the University of Cambridge and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire (Mr. Hugh Duberly).

His Royal Highness, Colonel, Grenadier Guards, this evening presided over a Conference attended by the Colonels of the Regiments of the Household Division and subsequently entertained the Colonels to Dinner at Buckingham Palace.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Elder Brother and Master, the Corporation of Trinity House, was represented by Captain Colin Stewart (Elder Brother) at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Sir Robin Gillett, Bt. (former Elder Brother) which was held in the Church of St. Lawrence Jewry-next-Guildhall, London EC2, this afternoon.
