FUTURE LEADERS

Run by: Ashridge, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire

Cost: £3.750 for three days, residential, inclusive of coaching and six months’ support.

Aimed at: High-fluying 25 to 35-year-olds, typically from FTSE 100 companies, multinationals, major accountancy, consultancy and law firms, who are the next stage up from graduates and are being put on the fast track to leadership positions.

What you learn: After substantial pre-course reading, participants are plunged into real-life “critical incidents” to experience what senior leaders describe as “the things they wish they had known ten years ago”.

Our verdict: It is a radical, perhaps pioneering, course and, according to the school’s research, exactly what employers want. The programme provides a stretching and challenging environment.

Contact: Programmes run in November 2004, March, June and October 2005. Contact Linda Nathan, Ashridge Sales Office, 01442 841201, or e-mail linda.nathan@ashridge.org.uk

THE NEW MANAGER

Run by: Roffey Park

Cost: £3,125 plus VAT for five days, including accommodation and meals

Aimed at: Typically people in their early to mid-thirties, new to management, from all sectors.

What you learn: The course styles itself as the “essential managerial tool kit” and participants are required to undergo rigorous self-assessment before tailoring the last part of the course to their individual needs.

Alumnus’s verdict: “I enjoyed the interactive style of the course and found the role-playing particularly valuable in getting into the minds of the staff involved. All sessions had a good mix of theory and practical work.”
