New Certificate in Charity Finance and Accounting

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (Cipfa)

Charities have a duty to be financially efficient: donors want as much of their money as possible to go as quickly as possible to their chosen cause. This London-only pilot scheme has been prompted by growing governmental pressure on charities to improve their financial management. The course aims to help charity finance departments to improve efficiency and productivity, and provide training in financial, strategic and business planning.

If successful, the course will be rolled out nationally next year. Graduates will receive affiliate membership of Cipfa and a postgraduate certificate from London South Bank University (LSBU).

Who attends?

Accountants and financial managers in the charity sector who do not hold relevant recognised finance qualifications.

Quote from organiser:

“Scrutiny is very intense in the charities sector and the Charity Commission continues to raise the game regarding financial management, yet up until now no training has been available for charity finance managers. We want people to be able to pursue real careers in charity finance management, and this course will make that possible.”

Chris Harris, chair of the Cipfa Charities Panel
