In Dominic Lawson's column "Brrr, the thinking on climate is frozen solid" (Jan 10) he stated that the owners of the Corus steel company stand to be rewarded with millions of pounds from the United Nations' Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) fund for closing a plant in Redcar and switching production to India. In fact, the proposed plants in India would make strip products for the domestic market rather than products for the international slab market and so would not be eligible for benefits under the UN CDM. We accept that the decision to partially mothball the Redcar plant was taken purely as a consequence of the reduction in demand within the international slab market. We regret the error.
