Sir, At last, a re-nationalisation initiative that even the Corbyn critics can endorse: “Exam boards are failing. Let’s nationalise them” (Opinion, Aug 19, and letter, Aug 20). Creating a competitive market for exam boards — providing schools with an obvious incentive to “game” the system by choosing a less rigorous board — is clearly failing both employers and students. Creating a single, national standard for exams would be far cheaper, less disruptive and ultimately more useful for the country than trying to re-nationalise our railway network.
